Barefoot shoes for your first steps outside

It is best for children to walk without sturdy shoes for as long as possible. Street shoes can be a hindrance, especially when taking their first steps when little ones are still clumsily exploring their world. Only when children have been walking independently for some time should proper footwear be worn! But what can parents do when it's cool outside and you just want to go out with the little ones - to the playground, a few steps outside on the street or run along next to the stroller? Simple leather crawling shoes are often not enough, especially in cooler temperatures. For this reason we have developed the “Porto” model. It is not designed for long distances on the asphalt, but really for use on the road Run startto keep little feet warm and protected. A learning shoe with a full-length rubber sole, no matter how flexible it is, is simply too much for some little runners. When pulling up, then crawling and then taking steps again, little ones need a flexible sole. This sole offers the best possible flexibility and bending options for crawlers and runners, especially in the midfoot. That's why we added rubber inserts to the front and back of the sole, but didn't use a full-length sole.

Optimal fit thanks to lacing

The advantage of lace-up shoes, especially for small children, is that The shoes can be better adapted to the foot thanks to the lacing. This means that children's feet have better support and the fit can be adjusted to narrow or wider feet. It's best to tie a double knot in it, then the shoe won't come undone. Smaller children in particular like to pull on the shoelaces or open the Velcro fasteners. A lace-up shoe with a double knot usually maintains its fit for a very long time and stays well on the foot.
Wide, comfortable entry
Younger children in particular still have the grasping reflex at the beginning and claw their little toes when putting on their shoes. The model can therefore be opened very wide for easy entry. The lacing allows the model to be optimally adjusted to the foot. An elastic band like with normal crawling shoes does not always fit all cuddly baby feet and is sometimes too tight at the entrance. That's why we decided on a wide opening with lacing for this model.
Barefoot sole: Super flexible minimal sole
The model has a wide, soft, leather sole with an anti-slip rubber insert for the first steps. The sole is made of rough leather, so it can of course be worn by real little runners, but it wouldn't necessarily withstand constant use on the asphalt. For runners, we recommend our Primero soles or our barefoot soles.
Material:
We deliberately chose suede because it is even softer and more flexible than smooth leather. Our natural leathers are vegetable tanned and chrome-free. This “Porto” is lined with cuddly, warm organic wool.
Care
If the "Porto" gets dirty or wet, simply let it dry thoroughly (do not place it on the heater). Then brush clean with a brush. You are also welcome to waterproof the shoes, ideally with an ecological waterproofing spray. If you do this on the sole too, the model will be more water-repellent. It's best to waterproof the boots in the evening and let them soak in overnight.
100% WOOL LINING (ORGANIC), cozy and warm
Wool has a high level of breathability and an optimal heat-insulating effect - in principle like a small, natural air conditioning system. With virgin wool from controlled organic animal husbandry, the use of pesticides and insecticides is avoided. This applies to both the animals and the soil on which the animals graze. Organic wool is the best for little feet, free of harmful substances and naturally warming.

Fit of children's shoes

The human foot takes approximately 18 years to fully develop. Of course, it grows fastest in the beginning. Therefore, you parents should check the fit of your children's shoes every 3-4 months. For POLOLO street shoes, we have always developed removable soles - as far as this was possible for the respective style. On the one hand, you can easily replace a sole (e.g. add a wool sole for the winter) and you can use it to measure the foot length and fit very well. If the imprint of the big toe is already dangerously far forward, then your child has already grown again and is due for the next shoe size. Our soles are all very flexible, especially our Barefoot collection.

POLOLO pursues the highest ecological standards

When producing our POLOLOs in Spain, we pay great attention to ecological, pollutant-free materials and workmanship throughout the entire production chain. We only use German natural leather that is vegetable tanned and certified, organic quality cotton (organic / kbA) and wool from controlled organic animal husbandry (organic / kbT). POLOLOs are allergy-friendly and therefore our leathers are naturally chrome-free.
