This motto of the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE inspired our new, colorful children's shoe collection made from upcycled ocean plastic. Unfortunately, millions of tons of waste still end up in our oceans every year. We all know: This is a danger to our environment! The SEAQUAL INITIATIVE works with ocean cleanup programs, fishermen, and local communities to transform the collected marine waste into SEAQUAL® YARN made from upcycled ocean plastic. Every kilogram of SEAQUAL® YARN produced corresponds to one kilogram of waste.
The goal is a clean sea!
The SEAQUAL INITIATIVE focuses on plastic waste from the ocean . Its partner network begins with fishing boats and extends to spinning mills, weaving mills, and brands committed to freeing the ocean from waste and producing environmentally friendly yarns, fibers, and fabrics. It is estimated that eight million tons of waste end up in the ocean every year, 80 percent of which sinks to the seabed. This type of pollution is worsening and threatens to spiral out of control. If we don't change our habits soon, by 2025 our oceans will contain one ton of plastic for every three tons of fish.
SEAQUAL® YARN:
We normally avoid using polyester, but this system and the quality of the fabrics have more than convinced us. SEAQUAL® YARN has the same properties as fibers made from conventional polyester, but is far superior from an ecological perspective. It actively contributes to cleaning the oceans, saves water and energy, and reduces CO2 emissions. Material traceability and certifications also assure end consumers that by choosing a product made from SEAQUAL® YARN, they are sustainably supporting the end of plastic pollution .
