The POLOLO expert discussion with Bodo Renghausen, Tapir company, and Klaus Röhrle, Ulrich company, of course

All parents know this: We have barely bought new, good children's shoes for the kids and after wearing them twice, they already look like they are two years old. This is annoying and not completely unavoidable, but there is good news: if you take care of children's shoes properly, they will last longer and stay beautiful for longer!
we have with Bodo Rengshausen, managing director of Tapir, Und Klaus Röhrle from the Ulrich company, of course spoken. Both brands offer natural leather care, which means that only naturally and ecologically degradable ingredients are used - no mineral oils, phosphates, aggressive acids or gases.

Naturally waterproof children's shoes

Both experts recommend against conventional waterproofing sprays because they contain greenhouse gases and a lot of things go wrong when spraying. Fluorocarbon compounds are also Ozone destroyer!
Because all the fat is removed from the leather during the dyeing process, new leather shoes must be worn before they are worn for the first time re-greased become. If you use natural products, there is a minimal darkening effect. This makes the leather moisture-repellent. Both companies offer a special impregnation for suede leather; smooth leather shoes can simply be impregnated with normal leather care.

Longevity through care

Both Röhrle and Rengshausen recommend taking good care of children's shoes, especially those seams, so that the suppleness of the leather and the shoes is retained. Well-maintained leather breaks less and therefore lasts longer.
Children's shoes don't have to be polished to a high shine, but regular creaming with a cloth and Leather balm or care cream Prevents premature wear of children's shoes. With natural products, a small residue may remain on the shoe.
The use of “home remedies” such as coconut and olive oil is not recommended, as these oils oxidize and rancid can be.

How to clean children's shoes

We at POLOLO recommend rough and smooth leather Rubber brushes and leather erasers, which are very effective at getting dirt out of the leather, especially in our soft leather shoes. This is the ideal way to get shoes clean again, especially for slippers.
The two experts from Tapir and Ulrich naturally recommend cleaning your street shoes little water and soap foam (vegetable soap or special leather cleaner); Under no circumstances should the foam be too wet, otherwise the leather of the shoes could become rock hard. Wet shoes should always dry slowly and never be dried on a heater or even blow-dried!
Remove the dirt with a damp sponge and two drops of soap or special leather cleaner and grease the shoes again when they are slightly damp, as damp leather absorbs the care better. After greasing, the shoes can feel a bit oily - we at POLOLO find this quite pleasant because it makes the shoes very nice smooth.
For smaller stains in suede you can always use a special one Dirt eraser to take.
However, cleaning with water and damp agents only applies to sturdy shoes or street shoes; If possible, please only clean our POLOLO slippers with the dirt eraser or rubber brush, as these shoes uncoated and stronger colors may rub off on lighter applications.

Finally, a tip on sustainability from Bodo Rengshausen

“You can turn a dirty suede shoe into a smooth leather shoe simply by using it well Lederbalsam greased. This means you don’t just have to throw away your shoes, you can still enjoy them and your smaller siblings for many years to come.”
